This varied tour allows you to experience the different landscapes of the relatively flat Harz foreland with its typical villages in the immediate vicinity of the town of Wernigerode.

An extensive, varied tour through the charming northern Harz foreland and the neighbouring towns of Halberstadt and Blankenburg on the Holtemme cycle route, the Harz foreland circular cycle route and the European long-distance cycle route R1 / Harz circular route.

A family-friendly and varied tour through picturesque villages in the northern Harz foreland against the imposing backdrop of the Harz and Brocken massifs, bringing the cultural and technical history of the Harz to life.

Cycling and enjoyment in the Harz foreland region and the Harz Mountains. Cycling nature lovers can choose from 12 stages between 24 and 65 kilometres in length. Along the way you will find catering establishments, producers of regional products, hire stations and accommodation.

The R1 European Cycle Route connects Boulogne-sur-Mer on the French Atlantic coast with St. Petersburg on the Baltic Sea. The cycle route passes through 9 European countries and attracts many cyclists every year. The route of the R1 European Cycle Route also passes through Wernigerode and the northern edge of the Harz Mountains, covering a total of over 3,500 kilometres.

Our section of the cycle route lies on the edge of the Harz Mountains and has only a few inclines. There are many interesting sights along the route, such as the monasteries in Ilsenburg, Drübeck and Blankenburg (Michaelstein). The monastery church in Michaelstein is the first cycle route church on the R1 European Cycle Route. The route of the R1 European Cycle Route in Wernigerode is well signposted and is identical to the D3 route.
