New Sacred Music

Operetta
Altmann | Dillmann | Bark

Three outstanding musicians, three artistic paths, three musical companions:

Warnfried Altmann (tenor & soprano saxophone)
Marvin Dillmann (didgeridoo & percussion)
Daniel Bark (piano)

together create a unique world of sound - archaic and stirring, meditative and timeless at the same time - music that touches you directly with its emotionality.

The musicians open up a space for a respectful, artistic encounter between melody and rhythm, sound and silence - an invitation to the audience to immerse themselves in the moment with their hearts and ears.

From jazz, improvisation, classical and world music and inspired by the mystical traditions of various religions, free in spirit, in shared devotion, a new sacred music is created.

Warnfried Altmann (Schwerin) has been an established figure in the jazz and free music scene of the former GDR for decades. He studied saxophone at the Dresden Academy of Music and worked as a big band musician for many years. Since the early eighties he has been playing in various chamber music formations and composing. Since then, he has composed numerous stage and film scores, chamber music and choral works. However, his main field of work is improvisation, which also brings him together with artists from other fields such as dance, visual arts, literature etc. time and again. From 1990 to 2010, he taught improvisation at Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg.

Marvin Dillmann (Wuppertal) is one of the most versatile didgeridoo players in the world. His highly energetic, percussive playing and his sensitive feeling for improvisation open up new perspectives for the traditional wind instrument of the Australian First Nations. With great openness and spiritual depth, Dillmann seeks dialog beyond stylistic boundaries and regularly performs on international stages. Since 2017, he has accompanied Indian superstar Arijit Singh on tour worldwide.

Daniel Bark (Wuppertal) is a pianist, composer and improviser. His music is characterized by lyrical melodies, virtuoso arpeggios and nuanced dynamics. Bark combines classical and jazz influences with a great love of experimentation and creates impressive, improvised soundscapes. Since the 1990s, he has had a significant influence on the Wuppertal jazz scene: as director of the Blue in Green series, he initiated the first Wuppertal jazz festival and supported numerous musicians in the region. In addition to his piano works, he explores the connection between music, language and computer science.
